Love Waterford’s Love All Our Kids Program is partnering with Waterford Unified School District to host an evening focused on helping parents and caregivers equip young people to build healthy relationships and recognize unhealthy ones.

The people influencing our children aren’t limited to those they see at school, at home, or in the community. Through social media, gaming, messaging, and other online spaces, young people can form relationships with people they may never meet face-to-face. How do we teach them to recognize who is safe to trust, what healthy relationships should look and feel like, and when someone’s words, behaviors, or requests should be a warning sign?

Our expert panel will explore healthy and unhealthy relationships in the many forms young people experience them, including friendships, dating relationships, trusted adults, family connections, and online relationships. Together, we’ll discuss boundaries, respect, trust, communication, manipulation, controlling behaviors, online interactions, and other warning signs parents and youth should know.

Most importantly, the evening will focus on how we can have these conversations with our kids before a problem occurs. Parents and caregivers will leave with practical information and tools they can use to help young people develop strong boundaries, recognize when a relationship may be unhealthy or unsafe, and know when and how to ask a trusted adult for help.

WHS students will help moderate the conversation, bringing an important youth perspective alongside the experience of our professional panelists. Following the discussion, families will have an opportunity to ask questions during an interactive Q&A.

We’ll then turn conversation into action by coming together to pack 100 Bags of Compassion for individuals in our community who need support. It’s a meaningful opportunity for families to serve together while reinforcing one of the evening’s most important messages: everyone deserves to be treated with dignity, kindness, and respect.

A complimentary dinner and dessert will also be provided.

Join us for an evening of learning, conversation, connection, and service as we work together to give our kids the tools they need to recognize healthy relationships, establish boundaries, trust their instincts, and seek help when something doesn’t feel right.
